Reception Baseline
From September 2021, the Department for Education directed all schools to carry out the Reception Baseline with children within six weeks of them starting their reception year. This is not a 'test' of the children, but time where children take part in practical activities on an individual basis with their class teacher. These activities establish the level of maths, language, communication and literacy skills that the children have entered school with. The school will not receive scores or marks from the baseline, but will instead receive short written statements which can be shared with parents on their request. The Department for Education will use the information gathered from the baselines to calculate progress measures as children complete their assessments in year 6.
